Gurugram: Renowned tabla legend Zakir Hussain and social activist and Pratham CEO Madhav Chavan enthralled the audience by sharing enlightening insights as the mesmerized crowd sat glued to their seats at DLF Club5, Gurugram.
The objective of the initiative was to give a sneak peek into the life of illustrious individuals and provide a forum to voice their opinions. The conversation between Zakir Hussain and author Nasreen Munni Kabir was centered on the recently released book on the tabla maestro titled ‘Zakir Hussain-A Life in Music’.
On the occasion, Zakir Hussain recalled his childhood days with nostalgia. Stressing the importance of guidance, he said: “It is important that the teacher identifies DNA of the student and the budding music artist gets proper guidance early on. One must learn to listen which is another most important aspect of being a student. Also, a student must inspire the teacher to teach.”
Zakir Hussain kept the momentum going throughout the session by sharing some of the lesser-known aspects of his life. A major portion of his discussion was based on his life experiences, his father, love for music and tabla.
Sharing his insights on the Indian education system, Madhav Chavan was critical of a one-size-fits-all approach. He emphasized the need for creating progressively strong foundations at the school level. According to him, the need of the hour is to create an institutional mechanism to herald a low cost and better quality education system.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Aakash Ohri, Senior Executive Director, DLF5 said: “Ustad Zakir Hussain is a living legend synonymous with music. Madhav Chavan’s work in the field of education is commendable. We were honored to host them at DLF5. They will continue to inspire the generations to come.”
