Saharanpur violence: DM, SSP suspended, Divisional Commissioner, DIG removed

New Delhi: In Uttar Pradesh, Saharanpur District Magistrate NP Singh and Senior Superintendent of police Subhash Chandra Dubey have been suspended and Divisional Commissioner MP Agrawal and DIG JK Shahi have been removed following the incidents of violence in the district.

Newly appointed DM, Pramod Kumar Pandey was rushed by the state plane to resume the charge last night. The administration has banned the use of social media in the district. The ban has been imposed to check the spreading of rumours.

 


The violence in the district has left three persons dead and several injured. About 60 persons have been arrested till now for their alleged involvement in the violence. Police has lodged three FIRs at Badgaon police station against several unknown persons in this regard.

Large numbers of security forces including 10 companies of Rapid Action Force have been deployed to maintain law and order.

Newly appointed DM Mr Pandey told AIR that to instill sense of security among people and maintaining law and order will be his priorities. He said nobody will be allowed to take law in their hand and strict actions will be taken against miscreants.

A team of four senior officers including Secretary Home Mani Prasad Misra, ADG Law and Order Aditya Misra, IG STF Amitabh Yash and DIG Security Vijay Bhushan has already been sent to Saharanpur by the State government to control the situation and maintain law and order.
