Newly elected to Legislative Council, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his four cabinet colleagues today took oath of membership of the upper house. Council Chairman Ramesh Yadav administered oath to them at a ceremony at Tilak Hall. Speaker of the Assembly Hridaya Narayan Dixit and several Ministers of Yogi Government were also present during the oath taking ceremony.
Yogi and both Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Dr. Dinesh Sharma, Minister of State for Transport independent Charge Swatantra Dev Singh and Minister of State Minority Affairs Mohsin Raza were elected recently unopposed to the house in bye elctions. Bye elections were held against the posts vacated by four Samajwadi Party members including Bukkal Nawab, Yashwant, Dr Sarojini Agarwal and Ashok Bajpai and a lone BSP member Thakur Jaiveer Singh. They all had joined the ruling BJP.
AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that Yogi and his all four cabinet colleagues were not member of either of the two Houses. They had to become a legislator within six months of assuming office and the deadline expires tomorrow on September 19.
