Amarnath Yatra : Yatra suspended due to heavy rains

Just a day after the holy Amarnath Yatra began, it has been suspended due to heavy rains and the twin routes of Pahalgam and Baltal have been closed temporarily. The rains have made the tracks slippery at certain places. Braving the unpredictable and dangerous weather, over 6,000 pilgrims on Thursday paid respect at Amarnath amid tight security.

“The pilgrims headed for base camps at Baltal and Nunwan are requested to check the status of the yatra with the control room or helpline set up by the SASB before starting off, ” an official of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board said.

J&K: Gunbattle breaks out at DPS Srinagar in wee hours

New Delhi: In Jammu and Kashmir, a gunbattle broke out at DPS Srinagar in the wee hours on Sunday as security forces launched an offensive to flush out terrorists who took refuge inside the school after attacking CRPF personnel in Pantha chowk area yesterday evening.

A police official said, the exchange of firing between security forces and terrorists began around 3.40 AM and is going on intermittently.
